That's right, we're doing our first ever Holiday Fair! And it is going to rock your jingle bells right off. The Holiday Fair will be a smaller scale version of our festival, and features 25 artisans from past festivals. This is the perfect opportunity to pick up one-of-a-kind handmade gifts for everyone on your Christmas list. Mark your calendars, it's this Saturday, Dec. 1!

The Makers Summit

We've been working overtime on a new venture for Indie Craft Parade: The Makers Summit!

The Indie Craft Parade mission is to empower the creative community by cultivating a knowledge and respect of handcrafted goods while providing valuable resources to independent artists. We’re always looking for ways to benefit those in our industry, which is the impetus for our very first Makers Summit. It’s a one-day conference focused on art, craft, and design and jam-packed with golden information to either start or grow your small business.

Join us February 2, 2013 to learn collaboratively through panel discussions, one-on-one sessions and keynote speeches from industry experts. Conference tickets are $100 and include breakfast & lunch.

Besides an incredible day of creative business sessions, we’re finishing off the conference with The Best Craft Party Ever!  The Makers Summit Afterparty is a great time to mingle with both peers and experts over dinner, followed by a time of making! The party is separate from the conference and tickets can be purchased for $50.

You guys, this is going to be an amazing experience. If you are wanting to start or grow your business, don't miss this!

It was insane. I can't wait for next year.

My booth at ICP

I had great fun setting up my booth for Indie Craft Parade, and was pleased with how the display turned out. This year I set up my booth the day before so that I would have time to take some photos. And sweet Courtney ran my booth the entire weekend so that I was free to manage the rest of the festival... I couldn't have done it without her!

Glittered letter garland and paper accordion fans in white, silver, and vellum.

Blossom necklaces arranged on a large mirror.

Huge pinboard display for all the earrings

Rings, in three different sizes.
I should have made way more of these, I sold out on Saturday morning!

Something new... Menagerie Necklaces! Hand-painted animal figurines with metallic gold accents, on a delicate white chain. Horses, deer, birds, even a lion... they were such fun! I sold out of most of these, but will try and get a few detail shots of the remaining ones.

Bobbies! Still a favorite.

So there you have it.
If you'd like to see more photos of ICP, check out my Facebook album, or the official Flickr pool.

I'm taking a break from my Etsy shop, but if you see something you'd like, just send me an email or an Etsy convo, I'm always happy to do custom orders.

From the ICP Blog:

You’ve heard so many great things about the Indie Craft Parade VIP Gala, and now you have a chance to win two tickets! This is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

The VIP Gala is your best chance to get to know the artists and get first dibs on their work. Not to mention the other great perks for attending Friday night: free food and drinks from some of our favorite local establishments and a host of fabulous giveaways. Food will be provided by Ribault Street Catering, drinks from Community Tap, and a coffee bar by Coffee and Crema. This is also the night to win giveaways — baskets of handmade goods straight from our vendors’ booths. We’ll also have live music from The Bent Strings that night, so come and enjoy it.

The VIP Gala will be held on Friday, September 9 from 6 to 9 pm at the Huguenot Mill in downtown Greenville, SC. This ticketed event kicks off the festival weekend, and helps support our artists and the mission of Indie Craft Parade. Check out the full details on our website!

Weekend Glimpse

Oh goodness, I need another weekend.

This past Saturday was the jurying for Indie Craft Parade. It was a very long and mentally exhausting process, with much discussion of the merits of one application over another. I am so glad the difficult task of choosing the exhibitors was up to our wonderful jury and not me! It was very exciting to see all the fabulous submissions, and I really respect all the artists who applied, they put so much effort into their craft.

Before Lib and I prepared all the application data and finalized the exact number of artists we had room for, Cory whisked me off to a fabulous fancy dinner to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. I love that man. We had a wonderful relaxing meal and then it was back to work for me.

Sunday was more ICP work, and a little birthday party for dear Heather. I made a strawberry tart and soft pretzels, mmm! Such a fun evening with the girls.

Not pictured:
- chocolate milk
- frozen bananas
- not enough sleep
- cuddling with my kitties
- valet parking
- funny comments by the jury I wish I could repeat
- dreading Monday

I was dreading today because I had to send out all the notifications to the people who didn't make it in Indie Craft Parade. I really hate letting people down and making them sad, it's no fun at all. Every year there are a few people who are extremely angry they didn't make it in and they make sure to let us know how upset they are. Last year, we didn't give people a reason when their application was declined, and everyone was demanding to know why. This year, even though it was a ton more work, we recorded why each application was declined and let the applicants know... of course, now people are extremely offended and astounded the jury actually judged their work (um, that's their job). Also, due to a few technical hang-ups, the whole email notification process took much longer than expected... I just finished sending out the last of them about 11:00 pm (I feel terrible it took so long!) and some people can't believe we didn't notify everyone all at the exact same moment (kind of impossible to do personal emails like that unless I have a huge army working for me). Basically, it's not been the best day.

Though I must say, for every snarky email or comment we got, there were several more very kind and gracious ones with actually helpful feedback. Thank you to all those who were able to receive the bad news with maturity and humility, you saved our sanity.

I know the reality is that no matter how we handle the rejection notifications in the future, we'll never be able to make everyone happy, and I guess that's ok. If I can just get through the next few days, I can begin to enjoy the phenomenal exhibitors we have lined up for this year, and I'm really looking forward to focusing on them.

For now, I'm going to eat some ice cream and schedule a massage.

ICP Blog: Photography Tips

I'm skipping the weekend glimpse today... I had a lovely and relaxing weekend and part of the enjoyment was the lack of pressure to photograph everything. ;-D

Have you all been reading the Indie Craft Parade blog? I hope so! Jen is doing a fabulous job of putting together the posts. She did an excellent one yesterday with tips for photographing your work. If you're applying to Indie Craft Parade or selling your work online, you know how important good photos are. If  your photos don't show off the quality of your work, you won't be able to impress the jury or the customers. You don't have to be a professional photographer with fancy equipment to achieve good results. Take a look at this example Jen shot, comparing harsh regular lighting with a homemade light box.
